Rapid Rehabilitation & Recovery

Forest View’s short-term rehabilitation program is designed to help patients regain their maximum functional capacity. Our comprehensive approach to patient care and rehabilitation features services that not only meet the specific needs of each patient but also ensure the shortest stay possible!

Our highly-skilled therapists work in conjunction with our team of physicians, nurses, social workers, and nutritionists - including the patient and his/her family - to develop an individualized treatment plan. Using innovative techniques and advanced technology, patients receive their therapies in our two short-term rehabilitation units. Therapy suites are outfitted with specialized, state-of-the-art equipment, offering our patients the most current treatment methods.

How do we know we offer a superior level of care?
Because, our professional staff includes over 15 therapists, assistants, and aides who speak a variety of languages - and have decades of combined experience! After a stay with us, our patients continue to refer us to their family and friends! In fact, many choose to return to Forest View in the event they require another rehabilitative stay.

Rehabilitation @ Forest View

Patients receive one-on-one therapy in our penthouse therapy suite, overlooking our beautiful patio with expansive New York City skyline views. When weather permits, patients can also enjoy a comfortable outdoor therapy experience on the patio. Our compassionate therapists focus on providing excellent care and attention in a pleasant, respectful atmosphere.

With our unique therapeutic approach, patients often return home within a few weeks!

Discharge Planning

A trip to the hospital or a rehabilitation facility can be an intimidating event for patients and their families. Often, not much thought is given to what will happen when you or your relative leaves in-patient care. Yet, proper discharge planning can dramatically improve the outcome for patients as they return home or to a lower level of care, and decrease the chance that you or your loved one will be readmitted to the hospital.

Our discharge planning staff works with insurance companies to determine extended-care insurance coverage. They can also make arrangements with medical equipment suppliers and home care agencies to give patients access to the services they will need when returning home.

Occupational Therapy

We recognize how important it is that patients regain the confidence and skill to perform daily activities in their home environment before they go home. Our occupational therapy suite includes an ADL (Activities of Daily Living) training room, where patients can practice maneuvering in a home kitchen setting and around common household fixtures such as sinks, medicine chests, toilets, shower stalls, and bathtubs.

We offer our patients a range of occupational therapy options based on their individual needs and abilities, and treatment is designed to hasten the healing process and restore vitality. Our goal is to provide our patients with the skills necessary to continue to perform everyday activities - such as bathing, dressing, cooking, and eating - so that they can maintain independent living and feel their best.

Physical Therapy

Our individualized physical therapy program is designed to help our patients regain strength and maximize their body’s physical potential. Our team of therapists works closely with our patients and their physicians to guide them through a safe and successful return to activity. Patients reach goals of renewed energy, safer mobility, and independent living. Most of all, they regain the confidence and skill needed to perform daily activities before they go home.

Physical Therapy services include:

  • Ultrasound Unit (for deep heating of soft tissue and increased circulation)
  • Electric Muscle Stimulation (for pain management and increased muscle movement)
  • CPM (Continuous Passive Motion) Machine (for patients with knee replacements or problems with the flexion or extension of their legs)
  • Gait Training (for patients learning how to walk again after surgery or injury)
  • Therex (Therapeutic Exercise) (for patients to achieve and maintain fitness)

Speech Pathology

Our speech pathology team can assess, diagnose, treat, and help prevent communication and swallowing disorders in patients. Upon admission, each patient is pre-screened for speech, language, hearing, cognitive, and swallowing difficulties. When indicated, patients receive restorative speech therapy from our licensed, certified speech pathologists, and speech therapy is available up to five days a week for patients who require intensive therapy. Our goal is to help our patients gain the confidence and skill to communicate more effectively.

Our Speech Therapists:

  • Teach patients how to make sounds and improve their voices
  • Teach alternative communication methods, such as sign language, to patients with little or no speech capability
  • Work with patients to increase their ability to read and write correctly
  • Work with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
  • Counsel patients and families on how to cope with communication disorder.

Recreational Therapy

Life is waiting! Our recreational therapy program is designed to restore and redevelop our patients’ level of functioning and independence in life activities. Our trained recreational therapists provide entertainment-based, large-group activities that can be adapted to the limitations and restrictions caused by an illness or disabling condition.

A variety of social activities build confidence and self esteem, while developing coping skills, promoting self-expression, and integrating skills learned in treatment settings into community settings. Participants learn constructive use of leisure time, how to eliminate boredom, and ways to reduce stress and anxiety. Come experience the benefits with us!

    Recreational therapies include:
  • Creative arts (i.e. crafts, music, dance)
  • Fitness/movement
  • Educational programming
  • and Off-site activities

Psychotherapy Services

The transition to a new living environment can create a significant amount of stress for most individuals – even those in the best of health. The psychotherapy services staff at Forest View Center is a team of licensed, professional clinicians who specialize in improving the mental health of residents in long-term care facilities. Our knowledgeable, empathetic staff can assess, diagnose, treat, and alleviate many of the symptoms seniors can experience as they age. Our team also includes social workers and counselors, who specialize in post-traumatic stress disorders and the emotional difficulties faced by Holocaust survivors and their families.

Studies have shown that seniors are at a greater risk of some mental disorders than younger people. However, once accurately diagnosed , many of these illnesses can be treated – allowing seniors to experience an enhanced quality of life in their later years.
